Compressed air from Kaeser Kompressoren for the Ammerland diary

The Crème de la Crème Quality compressed air for the dairy industry

Made in Germany compressed air. Ammerland Dairy expands with heat recovery technology from KAESER.

A cooperative of exclusive local farmers operates the Ammerland Dairy in Dringenburg, Oldenburg, a traditional dairy in a rural area that keeps pace with changing times while it also becomes a more modern company.

In 2013, Ammerland’s 90 tanker trucks collected more than 350 million gallons of milk from farmers in the region, an increase of 7.3 percent over 2012 and an ongoing upward trend. While this is good reason to celebrate, the dairy must continue growing to meet increasing demand. And it needs to grow quickly.

We require a reliable supply of quality compressed air that meets stringent health regulations.

To accommodate increasing production, Ammerland is expanding and enlarging its physical plant. Meanwhile, compressed air demand for cheese and butter production is rising. Production lines for the various types of cheese never stop, and they require maximum reliability and consistently high quality delivery of control air.

Another challenge the dairy faces is the stringent requirements that govern the food production industry.
Energy savings beyond expectations

Cheese production requires a tremendous volume of warm water. For instance, in the production of semi-soft cheeses, warm water washes the curds to achieve a homogeneous consistency. After it condenses into distilled water, Ammerland uses the water vapor that arises during the milk concentration process for cleaning purposes, which presents an excellent opportunity for KAESER to put its expertise for using heat recovery from compressor exhaust air to the test.

The new KAESER system delivers exceptional performance

Compressors, dryers and filters now reside in a new, expansive station, which features two “dry-running” compressors, one DSG 220 and one FSG 420, along with TH 451 series refrigerated dryers. The compressed air dryers and filters ensure compliance with the stringent food standards, and the heat recovery system for process water runs perfectly.

Enthusiastic praise from Ammerland's Technical Director

Ralf Leffers, the dairy’s Technical Director, is more than impressed with the performance and energy efficiency of the new compressed air supply system. “The decision to purchase KAESER equipment was absolutely right,” Leffers said. Yet he did not base this decision solely on KAESER's skill and expertise. Leffers also highlighted that the “Made in Germany” factor also influenced the decision to choose KAESER KOMPRESSOREN, for the management board as a whole as well as for himself personally.

The Ammerland Dairy is perfectly equipped to accommodate future growth. Construction of a new cheese production line and investments aimed at expanding the whey business indicates there is even more growth to come. Whatever the future holds, those in charge at the Ammerland dairy have total peace of mind when it comes to their compressed air supply system.
